Sheila ReinholdA Note from the Music Director

Join us Sunday afternoon January 27 at 3:00 pm for our fourth annual program of intimate Baroque chamber music. Take a musical journey back through the centuries to experience this wonderful music -- truly written for the chamber rather than the concert hall -- in our acoustically excellent "chamber", the intimate, warm, and lovely sanctuary of CSAIR.

This season, our Baroque concert will feature music that might have been enjoyed in the "salons" of upper-class Berlin in the late eighteenth century. In these musical soirées – many hosted by highly educated and musically accomplished Jewish women such as Sara Levy, the great-aunt of Felix Mendelssohn – the music of earlier "High Baroque" composers J.S. Bach and Handel, then out of fashion with the general public, was admired and enjoyed in addition to the music of the next generation, Bach's sons and the composers of the Prussian court in Berlin, who were forging a path in the transition towards what would become the "Classical period" of Haydn and Mozart.

Harpsichordist Carsten Schmidt will again bring one of his beautiful harpsichords to CSAIR and join Renée Jolles, James Wilson and me in a program of works for various combinations of violins, viola, cello and harpsichord. Included will be beautiful and well-known works: a sonata for two violins, cello and harpsichord by Handel, one by J.S. Bach's student J.G. Goldberg (which was long attributed to Bach himself), and one of Bach's marvelous sonatas for violin and harpsichord. We will also play less known but wonderful works of the next generation: a delightful and expressive trio sonata by C.P.E. Bach, a charming sonata for cello and harpsichord by J.C.F. Bach, and a passionate and virtuosic sonata for viola and harpsichord, variously attributed to W.F. Bach or to his teacher, Berlin court composer J.G. Graun. We are very happy to share these more unusual works with our audience and hope you will find them as beautiful and interesting as we do!

Our afternoon will be enhanced by a return of our friend Brent Delman, aka TheCheeseGuy, with a sampling of his artisanal, all-natural kosher cheeses, along with our usual wine and refreshments, all included in the ticket price. Doors will open at 2:30pm for cheese-tasting, wine, tea and coffee; the music will begin at 3:00pm.

Click here for ticket information and to order tickets online.

We are also happy to invite everyone to our 10th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday January 20 from 5-7 pm at CSAIR. We are thrilled to have reached this milestone and we would like to thank all our wonderful supporters with a festive gathering! Please click here for details of the party. If you have become a "Friend of Intimate Voices" with a donation of any amount over the past 10 seasons, you are gratefully invited and should be receiving an invitation shortly. If you wish to join our celebration and have not yet donated, please click for details.

We look forward to seeing you at the concert on Sunday afternoon January 27 and hope to also celebrate with you on January 20!

- Sheila Reinhold

Support Music for Kids and in the Community

When you subscribe to the 3-concert season series, please consider our Music-for-the-Community Package. We believe exposing children to the beauty and excitement of chamber music can inspire their participation in and enjoyment of music-making of all kinds for years to come. Our programs reach out to include all children and families, including those with special needs, through our free sensory/autism-friendly Family Program and our visits to an area special-needs preschool. In addition, we plan to continue our efforts to bring music to our neighbors in nursing and rehab facilities who are not able to come to our home at CSAIR, visiting the James J. Peters VA Medical Center as well as several area nursing homes. But to make these community-building programs possible and available for all, we need your help.

Music-for-the-Community Package
$120: includes 1 subscription to our 3-concert season series, plus a $50 donation (tax-deductible to extent permissible by law) to help underwrite the Community Outreach Programs bringing music to area rehab and nursing facilities, and also featuring our free sensory/autism-friendly Family Program and concerts for special-needs preschoolers.
